Earth and sky and the chaos in between are explored in this exhibition of art on paper by Mark Iwinski, Gregory Martens, and David Niec. Milwaukee gets a real treat as these well-established artists, with deep ties to Wisconsin, exhibit three very different approaches to their observations of the world. Iwinski will be showing his striking prints, watercolors and photography, Martens offers bold prints and collage, and Niec will show his exquisite ink drawings and watercolors. All three artists earned degrees at the Peck School of the Arts at UW-Milwaukee and have been good friends for decades.
Iwinski is influenced by archaeology, architecture, and the natural forest. Awards include the Saltonstall Grant, and fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council. Collections include Cornell University, Milwaukee Arts Board, and SGCI. Iwinski currently teaches drawing at Elon University in Durham NC. markiwinski.com
Martens’ narrative work targets the peculiarities of the Human Race. He exhibits frequently, and his work is in private and museum collections in the USA, China, Spain, Peru, and Amazonia. Martens teaches printmaking at UW-Milwaukee and is a resident artist at the House of RAD. He is the author of two books about his artwork. gregorymartens.com
Niec has been studying the nocturne for more than thirty years and his oil paintings of the moon are collected widely. Niec has done artist residencies with The Land in New Mexico and Gallery 224 in Port Washington, WI.
